Why designing your garden matters

Modern life has made food feel convenient, disconnected, and wildly confusing. But it doesn’t have to be…

Growing your own food is an investment in your future.

At The Gardens at SmallMeadow, we believe every seed planted creates hope for tomorrow — a tomorrow filled with abundant harvests, nutritious food, a healthier ecosystem, and a deeper connection to nature and the world right around you.

Instead of creating gardens that look pretty but don’t actually serve your life, we focus on edible garden consulting, practical design, permaculture-minded planting, and low-maintenance food crops that help your garden work for you.

Don’t Know Where to Start?

Perfect. That’s exactly what a consultation is for.

You don’t need to know whether you need raised beds, containers, a balcony setup, a full garden plan, or just someone to tell you what’s already growing in your yard. Start with a consultation, and we’ll walk your space, talk through your goals, and figure out the best next step together.

I’m Patti Kirkey — edible garden consultant, former corporate project manager, interior design major, award-winning baker, and the person who fully believes a little trial and error can teach you a whole lot.

The Gardens at SmallMeadow began as a way to share my own “failed successes” in growing food. Now, it exists to help others learn what works, what doesn’t, and how to make the most of their space, time, money, and harvests.

With a focus on permaculture, subsistence crops, and French Intensive Methods, I help you create a garden that is beautiful, productive, and designed around the way you actually live.

Part project manager, part garden nerd, part “let’s figure this out” guide.
